Ken Bruen and Jason Starr - Bust (2006)
Reviewed by David J. Montgomery
Two of the crime fiction world’s brightest talents, Ken Bruen and Jason Starr, join forces to produce Bust, one of the year’s most darkly satisfying and electric noir novels.
Max Fisher is a successful businessman in New York City with a beautiful home and money to burn. He’s got a problem, though: he hates his wife. If only he could get rid of her, he could live happily ever after with his sexy secretary Angela.
Conveniently enough, Angela knows a guy who might be able to help. Dillon, a delightfully charming Irish rogue, is a former IRA button man, the perfect person to help Max make his problem go away.
Retro-pulp publisher Hard Case Crime has been producing outstanding books since their debut in 2004, and Bust is one of their finest. Original, yet solidly within the classic noir tradition, this is one of the top guilty pleasures of the year.
