Max Allan Collins - Road to Paradise (2005)

Max Allan Collins’ extraordinary trilogy that began with Road to Purgatory (both the film and the graphic novel) comes to a triumphant conclusion with Road to Paradise.
The saga of Michael O’Sullivan Jr., the young boy who learned about violence at the right hand of his hit man father, comes full circle when the sins of a long life lived in the shadows revisit him in agonizing detail.
Michael thought that after hanging up his guns and building a family of his own, he had left his old life behind him. He was wrong. Now, for one last time, he must embark upon a journey of violence that might lead to paradise and might lead to damnation, but will certainly leave him forever changed.
Collins fills his story with period detail, and juicy mob stories and characters, but the best part of Road to Paradise is its heart. Michael is a tortured and wicked, but very human soul, a man who never had a chance in life, but nevertheless tries his best to honor his family and his God. Even the most jaded of readers will be hard pressed to read it unmoved.
