Ed Dee -The Con Man's Daughter (2003)

The latest mystery from Ed Dee, a police procedural maestro, is another winner. The Con Man's Daughter tells the story of Eddie Dunn, former pugilist and disgraced cop, a bruised and battered man trying to enjoy a quiet life with his family.

When Eddie's 35-year-old daughter Kate is kidnapped, he springs back into action, pounding his old beat of Coney Island and taking on the Russian mobsters who control that turf with the tenacity of pit bulls.

Dee has done a remarkable job of spinning a detailed, suspenseful and touching story about a man's love for his family and his willingness to do whatever it takes to protect them. Dunn is a fascinating character, a violent man with an unsavory past who still can feel tenderness and affection for those closest to him.
