Blake Crouch - Desert Places (2004)

Desert Places, by Blake Crouch is a decent first effort, a book that begins with an interesting concept but soon devolves into just another uninspired gorefest.

The protagonist, Andrew Thomas, is a moderately successful North Carolina crime fiction writer who one day receives an ominous note from an unknown killer, a plot device that immediately pulls the reader into the story. It's all downhill from there, though, when Thomas meets up with the killer, who turns out to be his estranged twin brother.

Crouch, who grew up in the North Carolina piedmont and now lives in southern Colorado, is a good storyteller, but his writing is hampered by weak dialogue and bland characters. Fortunately his plotting shows promise and he deserves a second glance.

I don't know what you are talking about. This is the best book I think I ever read. I couldn't putit down. My huisband read it right after me and he said the same. I just recomened it to my sister and she couldn't put it down. There was something happening on every page. he got to the point and didn't drag it out and put stuff in it that didn't need to be there. It was a great book. Can't wait to read his next one.
